Welcome to my blog about Life in Newfoundland. My name is Sander, on this blog I go by the name ‘newfoundsander’, that’s me in the photo up there.
As an experienced hiker and a professional photographer I usually write about the scenery along Newfoundland’s boundless and beautifully rugged shore. The East Coast Trail in particular is a favourite subject, but I also write about local wildlife like capelin, whales, and my other interests, which include icebergs, berry picking and the changing seasons.

About the author
Back in 2008, my wife Marije and I moved to Newfoundland after having lived in Holland for 30 years. As a new Newfoundlander, I made a point of becoming intimately familiar with the east coast, and in a matter of years I saw so much of Newfoundland I couldn’t help but fall in love with the place.
East Coast Trail Guide
The East Coast Trail Guide is a digital book I created for fans of the East Coast Trail and lovers of Newfoundland in general. You could say this book is the end result of all my work and time in Newfoundland. In essence, it’s a combination of a photo book and a trail guide, and reading it will make anyone want to explore the coast:
Life on other islands
In the summer of 2014, Marije and I moved to British Columbia for work, we lived on beautiful Vancouver Island for 2 years.
In the summer of 2016, Marije and I moved back east to pursue a job opportunity on lovely Prince Edward Island.
Return to Newfoundland?
It’s only wishful thinking for now, but Marije and I eventually want to move back to Newfoundland, we left a piece of our heart there and we intend to get it back!
