Very early this morning I saw capelin rolling on Middle Cove beach:
Before sunrise a small number of them were doing their ‘capelin dance’, but it did not last long. Immediately after the sun rose the gulls moved in and enjoyed a capelin breakfast.
Soon enough the capelin will start rolling for real, with greater numbers pouring onto the beach. For more news keep an eye on my Capelin Calendar, and if you would be so kind please share any capelin related news you may have there too.
UPDATE / 9PM:
I returned to the beach at sunset, which I assure you is a totally different experience. A fishermen was casting his net into the surf catching capelin and filling people’s buckets.
