Even though there’s still plenty of snow in the forecast, here’s a sure sign of a change in seasons: the ospreys have returned to Newfoundland.

Osprey on its nest – Middle Cove

Ospreys spend their winters down south (think Florida, Caribbean, Venezuela) and come here for the breeding season. This morning after dropping off Marije at work I saw one of them flying over me with a twig and landing on its nest to repair it. Year after year these fishing eagles return to the same site and right now it apparently needs some work before it’s good to use again.

I had already put the ospreys in my seasonal schedule so it’s nice to see that some things do happen on a set time table. Icebergs have apparently missed the memo on that one this year.
