This spring will be my third iceberg season in Newfoundland, but I’m sad to say my excitement has already been subdued as far as the East coast is concerned. I saw my first icebergs here in 2009 and was instantly smitten, after that somewhat quiet season I had high hopes for the icebergs in 2010, but none showed up at all.

Now, 2011 has arrived and the news is kind of a mixed bag on this calm April day:

These maps are published daily by the Canadian Ice Service, the bottom one is the current situation and the others are from the archives, they each show the number of icebergs per degree square.

Just have a look, there’s really not much to say about the situation, is there?
