Two nights ago the planet Saturn was in opposition, meaning it’s the best time to see it all year long; unfortunately we had overcast skies at the time.

Last night was clear however, which is the next best thing. Saturn may have been closer the night before but it will stay very bright and visible for the time being, last night I took a shot at it (shown above).

Yes that’s it, just a tiny dot in the middle of a black sky, you can see it’s rings though.

You may recall I also took a shot at Jupiter a while ago, that photo turned out a little bit more detailed because Jupiter is bigger and much closer to us than Saturn. It’s really quite amazing I was able to see Saturn’s rings with just an ordinary consumer camera and lens, I woke up Marije in the middle of the night and she actually came outside to have a look too.
