Formerly known as the Father Troy Trail and also Gallows Cove Trail, the hiking trail from Flatrock to Torbay is now a new and ‘official’ section of the East Coast Trail, henceforth to be known as Father Troy’s Trail.

I used those quotation marks up there because as far as I’m aware there hasn’t been an inaugural walk or an official announcement or anything. I just explored the Beamer today and I found the official East Coast Trail trailheads and trailsigns in place:

On official Canadian maps, the northern tip of the Beamer is called Flat Rock Point, but ECTA has given it a new and catchier moniker: Beamer Lookout. Has a nice ring to it don’t you think?

One of the things I like best about the Beamer is the vegetation, there isn’t a whole lot of it, such a barren but beautiful place. Just about the only thing that does grow there well is lichen:
