My name is Sander, on this blog I go by the name ‘newfoundsander’ because I’m a new Newfoundlander, so in a way I’m a newfound Sander!
Back in 2008, my wife Marije and I moved here from Holland and immediately fell in love with the place. To keep in touch with friends and family I started this blog, using it to document our experiences as visitors to this strange new world.
Much time has passed since the move and although I still consider this a personal blog, I’ve added some pages that may be of actual use to others, dealing with specific information about local wildlife (capelin/whales) and Hiking the East Coast Trail. Another thing that’s changed over time is that I pretty much know my way around the island by now; I’m not a ‘local’ yet but I certainly don’t consider myself a visitor anymore.
That’s basically all there’s to say ‘about this blog’. It’s a platform for sharing information and a personal motivator, encouraging me to go hike and see new things every day, so I can share them here with you.
About the author
I’m not on any social network, so this is the place to read everything you never needed to know about me:
Like I said earlier, I’m Dutch. I’m a photographer, not of portraits and weddings but of nature. My hobbies are hiking, wildlife watching and astronomy, stuff like that. I used to like travel too, but since our move to Newfoundland I’ve been mostly confined to the Avalon Peninsula. That’s fine with me though, I like it here.
Our future in Newfoundland is locked in with Marije’s job, as long as she works here we can stay, after that we are gone with the wind.
